Tottenham og Chelsea trådte ind i EFL-cuppens tredie runde sammen med de 5 andre europadeltagere. På ” hjemmebanen” Stadium:MK vandt Spurs over Watford efter 2-2 i ordinær tid og afgørelse på straffespark. Dele og Lamela scorede i ordinær tid og Dele satte det afgørende straffespark ind. Dele vil huske hjemkomsten til Milton Keynes “ for all of his life“, sagde manager Pochettino. Dele var anfører i dagens anledning, hvor han spillede mod sin tidligere klub.
Chelsea besejrede Liverpool på Anfield med 2-1. Emerson (79. min) udlignede og Hazard scorede sejrsmålet fem minutter før tid.

I maj måned 2016 mødtes holdene i 3. sidste spillerunde. Tottenham på andenpladsen i Premier League skulle bruge en sejr for stadig at have en chance for at indhente Leicester.
Kane og Son sikrede ” Spurs“ en halvegsføring på 2-0 efter en første halveg, der bød på advarsler til Walker, Rose og Vertonghen samt Willian fra Chelsea.
“ the Blues” sendte Hazard på banen ved anden halvegs start og han scorede det udlignende mål syv minutter før tid efter Cahil havde reduceret 10 minutter inde i halvegen.

Kampen startede i et højt tempo med masser af energi fra begge hold. Det ændrede sig ved Kanes straffesparksscoring. Herefter forsøgte Tottenham at holde fast i bolden og kontrollere kampen.
Målet kom efter en VAR-afgørelse, der viste at Kane ikke var i offsideposition, da han efter 23 minutters spil modtog en lang bold fra Alderweireld. Kane kom ind i feltet og forsøgte at komme forbi målmand Kepa, der forsøgte at komme først på bolden. Kepa fældede Kane og straffesparket var dermed en realitet.
Dommeren dømte først offside efter linievogteren viftede med flaget, men blev kontaktet af “ assisterende videohjælpedommer“ , der satte kampen på pause. Efter et par minutter blev der dømt straffespark og Kepa fik gult kort.

Gazzaniga “ had a solid game between the pipes as he continues to perform as Spurs number 2 keeper …. did well coming off his line …. did well cutting several crosses, both in the air and on the floor …. a complaint, it is about several rebounds …. is clear everyone feels good about Spurs second choice keeper “
Alderweireld “ was his usual rock for Spurs defensively. Whether it was saving a corner with a late clearance over the touchline, a sliding tackle to clear, or booting away a Gazzaniga rebound ”
Kane “ did a LOT of hold-up play and dropped deep quite a bit in the game. He was frankly our best playmaker on the night, even if not all his passes came off …. continues to show growth as the one season wonder now has 20 goals for club on the season “
Pochettino ” We will see if his decision to play Jose Mourhino style with parking the bus football after going up 1-0 pays off in leg 2. That said, it was clear Chelsea wasn’t going to score. When nearly every shot comes from 25 yards away, the odds of success diminish. He clearly put out a plan that frustrated Chelsea and left them complaining on and off the pitch“
